Caught My Eye - Catcher in the Rye!!!!!
Have you ever got frustrated with everyone in the world and with everything in the world???!!! It does happen doesnt it?? We are not the kind who can always be in love with the world, always be in love with everyone, for that matter, it is hard for us to be in love with oneself, all the time.. Aint I not right dude??!!!!!
Have you ever been full of angst about things being morally right and wrong?? Have you ever thot as to why people do the nasty things that they do? And have you ever felt that you should retire and seek out a life away from this world where you lay down the rules for ethics and morality ??? I bet you have!!!
But have you ever thot of wording all the frustration, I mean , jus word them and not bother to give any explanation to those stringent opinions of yours about which you dont want to think twice, atleast momentarily..?
What if you are let to just bottle up all your frustrations and jot them down in sentences as narration!!!! Believe me there will hundreds and thousands in the audience who will be able to speak your language... trust me thats the way world works...
Yes friends, you are not the only one who feels like that. Ask J.D. Salinger , he too feels, or should I say felt the same way about the world when he was seventeen. Yes I am talking about Catcher in the Rye!!
Pretty much a fast read, but certainly one more to the "unputdownable" list. The author just speaks to you in form of the protagonist. When I say he speaks to you, i meant it literally. The book is mostly a monologue as far as the reader is concerned. The protagonist talks to you as though he were sitting right next to you while you were traveling or as though you two were room mates trying to go over the things that happened to each other in life. I say this becoz you can actually feel the vehemence and the emphasis of the direct speech when you read the book.
No dearth of humour, you will laugh your guts out thro out the book. It is one thing to write something and make people laugh but its another to make people laugh and make them think earnestly about more serious things in life. I am not saying it is easy to make people laugh, but buddies, to make the audience laugh at one time and make them emotional at the other with the same tempo in the same book, truly calls for restraint free expression and clarity of thot.... Or on the other hand , may be its as simple as jus being honest!!!!.
The language is one of the simplest that could have ever been used primarily becoz the motive of the author was just a brazen expression of his opinion about the world that he was living in and how awfully he was faring with it.
To put in a nutshell, the book is a candid rambling of a young boy caught in a trap of adolescence with a neat dose of sense of humour and food for thought. Give it a try guys, its surely worth the time!!!
